Abarna’s experience as an educator started while she pursued her B.Math (2011) at Carleton University. She then completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Education in 2014 at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. She has gained experience working at various schools in the UK where her passion for teaching excelled.

Abarna has been tutoring since 2012 and has loved the whole experience of working with students one on one to teach and encourage efficient study habits. She has worked with students different curriculum expectations both internationally and locally.

I am currently completing my final year of teachers college with teachables in Biology and Chemistry. I have a bachelors of Science specializing in Neuroscience obtained from the University of Guelph. Hello, my name is Anne and I am a French Immersion Teacher with Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. My passion for teaching and learning began at Queen’s University where I was a student in the Concurrent Education program. At Queen’s, I obtained my degree in History and French Language and Literature, as well as my Bachelor of Education. I am certified to teach all subjects from Kindergarten to Grade 6. I currently teach Grade 4 French Immersion, however I have also taught Grade 7 French Immersion and 4-8 Core French. In addition to my teaching experience, I have eight years of tutoring experience for French Immersion students in Grades 1 to 10. As an educator, I am passionate about building positive relationships with my students in order to foster confidence, and work collaboratively to help them achieve their goals. Hello! My name is Ashleigh and I am an Ontario Certified teacher with the York Region District School Board. I have been teaching permanently for 4 years now in a multitude of grades and subject areas, including: grade 1 and 3 French Immersion, the Core French program for grades 4-6, and, currently, grade 5 homeroom. Hello! My name is Dhakshan. I am currently a Health and Physical Education teacher with the Durham District School Board. My teaching areas are intermediate math, intermediate science, and senior science. Prior to teaching with the DDSB, I worked both seasonally and full-time with the YMCA of Greater Toronto. I was a part of the team that organized and supervised 50+ summer camps. I gained many years of experience working with children and youth through recreational programs.

My teaching experience started overseas in Australia where I went to teachers college and taught grade 7,8 and 9 math, science and phys.ed at a high school in North Queensland.

Hi, I am Grant, I am an Ontario-certified teacher in the areas of Maths, and Physics. Prior to teaching, I worked as an Environmental Engineer in the Australian natural resources industry. I studied at the Australian Maritime College for my Engineering degree and at the University of Technology Queensland for my Masters in Education. My name is Haley. I am currently studying at Ontario Tech for a Bachelor of Education, Intermediate/Senior with teachables in biology and history. I graduated from UofT in June 2022 with an HBSc with high distinction, including majors in human biology and history.

My academic path has lead me down many different roads and I have gained experience in many subjects as a result. I have studied Biological Anthropology, Archaeology, Classical History, World History, and Forensic Science, all of which I have a strong passion for that I hope to pass on to my students.

In my spare time, I love to read and write. I particularly enjoy YA fantasy novels, and one of my life goals is to write my own YA novel some day! I go rock climbing and love to swim to stay active, but I am guilty of spending a lot of time playing video games (which actually teach a lot of useful skills!).

Lindsay has a BA in Developmental Psychology, a MA in Applied Health Science, and a Bachelor of Education degree. She has been teaching in the Durham Region since 2015, and has experience working with students from many different grades and communities across the region.
Lindsay believes in each child’s innate ability to learn, communicate, and make connections. She finds great joy in getting to know her students so that she can find the best ways to help them share their unique brilliance with the world. Lindsay’s research on behaviour, motivation, and well-being has been published internationally, and she uses that knowledge to best engage her students. My philosophy of education is that all children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is my desire to create this type of environment where students can grow into their full potential. Through my related teaching experience, I believe that there are five essential elements that are conducive to learning. 1) The teacher’s role is to act as a guide. 2) Students must have access to hands-on activities. 3) Students should be able to have choices and let their curiosity direct their learning. 4) Students need the opportunity to practice skills in a safe and inclusive environment. 5) Technology must be incorporated into their school days. My educational philosophy encompasses many things; however, it heavily focuses on the aspects of care work that are involved in teaching and being an educator. I believe that education is not just about academic achievement and curriculum expectations—it is about far more than that. Being an educator means caring for students and being the support, they need, in order to move on to the next chapter of their lives. Being an educator means preparing students, not just academically but also for the real world. I believe in teaching students by modeling positive behaviours, showing them love, compassion, and empathy—showing them that that they are loved and cared for. I truly and honestly believe that a teacher who does not try to put themselves in the shoes of their students, is limited in their ability to help students and impart knowledge.

My teaching philosophy, more specifically in terms of educational practices and strategies, is in line with holistic teaching. I believe in teaching the whole student, about the world at large. I also think students benefit most when they are taught from the approach of being lifelong learners. Rather than having an end goal in education, it is beneficial to show students that learning is a lifelong process for everyone, for students and teachers alike. Furthermore, I believe in dialogic teaching, where students are given autonomy and a voice in the learning process. They are shown that their opinions matter and that they are trusted to have control over their own learning. This also teaches students to take ownership and responsibility over their own learning, taking away from the traditional authoritative classroom dynamic, and contributing toward the more progressive student-centred classroom dynamic.

I am also a strong believer in differentiated instruction—providing students with an array of learning and assessment opportunities, so that they may succeed within the educational system. Differentiated instruction is also connected to adaptation and modification of learning materials so that students may work toward common goals and expectations, while having their needs met. I think technology is also a great way to ensure that students are receiving equitable learning opportunities. With all the technology and resources available there is no reason why students shouldn’t receive the assistance they need, whether it be accommodations or assistive technology.

My name is Marlyn and I’m currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Education program at Ontario Tech University (Intermediate/Senior Division), specializing in Biology and General Science. I have completed a Bachelor of Science, with honours, at the University of Guelph with strong a background in Biology, Chemistry, Neuroscience, and Physiology. Hi, I’m Meagan! I am currently a teacher candidate at York University in the primary/junior division. Before starting my Bachelor of Education, I completed my undergraduate degree in Linguistics at the University of Toronto.

I have over 10 years of experience in various educational settings, such as working as a French teaching assistant for a Montessori school, as an educational clinician for a reading remediation centre, and as a tutor for all grades and subjects. I am very passionate about reading and literacy and have extensive knowledge and experience with the science of reading.

As an educator, I believe that a student’s interests, choices and experiences should be at the forefront of learning. I strive to create engaging, meaningful and fun lessons and activities for my students. I love tutoring because it’s an opportunity to build strong, trusting relationships with my students and allows me to adjust my teaching style to directly benefit their strengths and needs.

Outside of tutoring, I love spending time outdoors, hiking, skating, skiing, playing tennis, etc. I also love reading, crafting and spending time with my friends, family and pets.

Melanie, who goes typically by Mel, is a BA Graduate and current P/J Teacher Candidate at Ontario Tech University, who’s passionate about teaching and creating with students and children. She thoroughly enjoys being a part of the learning process and loves bringing new and imaginative ways to help students grow. With experience in both recreational and volunteer environments, her understanding of progressive learning spans various age groups.

As a former Swim Instructor, Mel had avidly taught and worked with students ages 3-12, and students with special needs. She’d formerly volunteered at her local community church for 2 years, where she embraced creating safe and cheerful learning environments for young campers as a camp counsellor. Taking the time to build a relaxed, optimistic, and understanding space for students is of utmost value to her.

When Mel isn’t writing essays throughout the school semester, she can be found drawing comic book panels, painting pottery, or creating absurdly dynamic stories with the children she babysits. As a Communications graduate with a passion for English, she’s found a lightness in her love for teaching that she hopes to bring into her own classroom and to students who just need a little pep in their step!

Nour is a passionate educator with seven years of experience. She holds a BSc in mathematics and a M.Ed in education with a specialization in special education. Hi! My name is Raisa. I am currently teaching grade 1/2 French Immersion with the Toronto Catholic District School Board. I majored in French Studies at Glendon College of York University. I then completed a 2-year Bachelor of Education degree at the same campus, specializing in Primary/Junior (K-6), in 2019. The majority of my experience comes from working with grades K-3 and grade 5. Outside of the classroom, I have tutored students of all ages as a Piano Teacher and worked on the Royal Conservatory of Music Program with several of them. In addition, I have worked as a senior camp counsellor at a French summer camp and have been in charge of arranging various educational and fun activities with students.

My philosophy of teaching includes providing a safe and welcoming environment for students to think and to ask questions, to grow academically, to be creative problem solvers, and to develop meaningful personal connections. Raj Rungta is an Ontario-certified teacher who holds many degrees including his B.A.Sc, M.A.Sc, P.Eng. and B.Ed.  In addition to his teaching certification, Raj is a certified mechanical engineer who has over 18 years of professional engineering experience in the Nuclear, Manufacturing, and Consulting Engineering industries.  He has taught many professional development courses in the field of engineering.  Rajesh combines both his passions for teaching and engineering through his experience as a classroom teacher as well as a college professor.  Rajesh teaches all levels of math and science.  He specializes in physics, chemistry, and all levels/types of math and ACT/SAT prep.

Hi, my name is Rochelle and I completed my undergraduate degree in Science at University of Toronto. I then pursued my Master’s of Environmental Science and now currently pursuing my Masters of Teaching degree at OISE.

My teaching philosophy has been shaped by three main factors: research related brain-based learning, ongoing self-reflection on my teaching practice, and my experiences as a learner. Currently, Tareque is enrolled in the Master of Teaching program at University of Toronto/OISE, and is in process of becoming a Certified Ontario Teacher. As an MT, Tareque is researching the benefits and ways of integrating video games as a pedagogy and course material in the classroom. Tareque hopes video games as course material can lead to new ways of learning and more representation of underrepresented skills. Tareque also has TEFL/TESOL certification, and taught ESL/EFL to numerous students, ranging from young children to seniors. I have had the good fortune of teaching primary and junior students and preschool aged children. I have worked as a dance teacher as well as a Montessori teacher.
