About:Asmita completed her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in June 2013, majoring in Children’s Studies at York University. She then went on to complete her Bachelor of Education Degree at University of Toronto (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education) specializing in the Primary/Junior division within the Aboriginal Infusion cohort. Recently, she completed an Additional Qualifications course, Specialist in Special Education. She also obtained Additional Qualification courses in Reading and Math. She completed her TRIBES certification soon after completing her Bachelor of Education Degree. Following her Bachelor of Education Degree, Asmita worked with Grade 1 students on two different, challenging and rewarding Aboriginal reserves. Currently, Asmita volunteers her time at two Toronto public schools where she closely works with the school’s Physical Education Teacher in creating and facilitating fun and active Physical and Health Education activities and she assists classroom teachers by advancing their literacy skills within a Resource Program she has designed or supporting students to improve in their classwork. She has over ten years of extensive experience working with children in schools, daycares, a group home, and day camp settings, to name a few. Her love for teaching began while she tutored in her elementary school and taught her Grade 4/5 students about children’s rights and reenacted a United Nations Conference with them. From that activity on, she has worked tirelessly on her academic and personal growth to fulfill her teaching career and goals.
When Asmita isn’t in the classroom, she loves to spend time with her loved ones or close friends, cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre, playing word or brain games, participating in neighbourhood initiatives, writing freelance pieces of writing or eating the spiciest dishes or drinking bubble milk teas in international restaurants around the city. Asmita is extremely patient, kind and highly supportive to all of her students.
As an educator, Asmita strives to use her positive outlook and best supports her students by using their strengths and hearing out “their voice” to engage, excite and execute the content they are working on in the classroom or the session she is tutoring them in and apply it to their everyday learning.
