Primary/Junior Special Education and IB/PYP Teacher
About:Carly is a graduate of New York University with a bachelor degree in History. She also earned a bachelor of education from OISE here in Toronto, and is certified by the Ontario College of Teachers to teach both primary and junior levels. She has additional qualifications in Teaching English as a Second Language, Special Education and Kindergarten, and has taught a wide range of ages, from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5. She is familiar with the IB Program, having taught it at the Primary Years level, and studied herself at the Diploma level.
After graduating from OISE in 2013, Carly moved to England where she pursued her dream of teaching. While there, Carly was a classroom teacher in inner city schools, where she learned valuable skills in classroom management and lesson differentiation. She taught children from a diverse range of backgrounds, including those with special needs. While here, she received training in two phonics programs, Jolly Phonics and Read Write Inc., and in the foundational Maths Mastery program.
After two years in England, Carly moved to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, where she worked as a Year 6 teacher in the Oxford International School. While here she gained valuable experience in teaching English Language Learners, and further experience differentiating for gifted students. This position taught Carly the importance of using visual aids and body language to not only overcome language barriers, but learning barriers as well. At OIS she also acted as the Upper Key Stage 2 Coordinator, where she managed the Year 5 and Year 6 teams, including lesson plan overview and classroom observations.
Carly has returned to Toronto eager to continue her career and her lifelong goal to help students love learning. She is dedicated to creating interesting and engaging lessons for her students to help boost their understanding and their passion for school subjects. She tailors each lesson to the student's needs, and cultivates self-confidence through positive reinforcement. She is very passionate about helping each and every student reach their full potential, and to have fun doing it.
