Erica completed her undergraduate degree at York University in Sociology
and Religious Studies. In June of 2017 she will graduate from the Master
of Teaching program from the University of Toronto's Ontario Institute
for Studies in Education. She wrote her thesis on the integration of play-based
learning beyond the Kindergarten level. Erica is qualified to teach Kindergarten
to Grade 6 and has had a extensive experience at each of these grade and
As a volunteer at SickKids hospital, this experience has taught Erica about the importance of consistently accommodating the needs of diverse children. She has learned to be versatile and to adapt her teaching practices in accordance with students learning needs and styles. Erica believes that teaching needs to be a collaborative process between teachers and students. She believes that students should be given ample opportunities to be creative, critical thinkers, to wonder, to explore, and to ask questions in an attempt for students to be motivated and inspired to learn.
Erica is a strong believer in ongoing professional learning and is currently working towards obtaining her Intermediate and Special Education qualifications. She looks forward to mentoring and developing new relationships with students and providing them with the necessary tools in order to achieve academic success.
Outside the realm of education, Erica's interests include baking, playing soccer and spending time outdoors.
In addition, Erica is trained on the Direct Instruction Teaching Method and enjoys delivering remedial instruction in the areas of Reading Mastery, Spelling Mastery and Expressive Writing.
