Intermediate Teacher and Academic Coach
Heather completed her Masters of Teaching degree at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Through this program she will receive her certification with the Ontario College of Teachers to teach Intermediate and Senior students Biology, General Science and Social Science. She is planning to obtain the Intermediate Math and Special Education additional qualifications this summer. She also holds a Bachelor of Science Honours in Psychology from Queen’s University.
Heather has a lot of teaching experience as teaching has been a passion of hers for many years. Whilst in high school herself, Heather did a cooperative education placement in two special education classes. Then as an undergraduate student she worked for multiple years as a Peer Learning Assistant helping her peers develop better study habits and acted as a teaching assistant for the first-year psychology course offered at Queen’s University. Since beginning her teaching degree two years ago, Heather has taught in multiple schools within the Toronto area and provided in-home tutoring services to elementary and secondary students. Just recently, Heather travelled for a month-long placement to China and Hong Kong where she taught English language learners and students enrolled in the IB curriculum.
Heather is a strong believer in helping students develop confidence in their academic abilities. She does this by developing positive relationships with her students, and providing them with personalized support while they review and practice using learned concepts.
When Heather is not at school or teaching, she enjoys leading indoor cycling classes, running, volunteering in her community, travelling, and spending time with her family.
