About:

My name is Julie and I am Primary, Junior and Intermediate qualified teacher (Kindergarten to Grade 10). I completed my undergraduate degree at McMaster University, at which time I studied a double major in English and Sociology, and graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts. I immediately went to teacher's college at Queen's University and graduated in 2013 in the Primary and Junior divisions. Since then I have taken 6 Additional Qualification teaching courses: Intermediate English, Special Education, Kindergarten, Mathematics for grades 7 & 8, Use and Knowledge of Assistive Technology, and English as a Second Language. Teaching is truly my passion and I am always looking for ways that I can grow as an educator. Professional development is extremely important to me, as it allows me to learn new strategies to enhance my students' learning experiences! I am currently a supply teacher. I also taught a Grade 7 & 8 gifted class for 5 months. I have worked with a range of students with learning needs, including individuals with ADHD, Anxiety Disorder, Autism, and English Language Learners. I am a positive, compassionate and understanding individual who finds peace in helping others. I aim to do all that I can to guide and motivate each student to succeed. I enjoy tutoring as it allows me to focus on the individual needs of a child, and produce lessons that help them grow in areas that they find more challenging. One of my key goals is to help students become more accountable of their learning, which involves developing their organizational skills, being reflective of their learning experiences and regularly creating learning goals. I hope to inspire each child to be motivated and enthusiastic about school and their experiences in their classroom environment. I will focus on their current work, and help them become confident, self-directed learners. I take the time to get to know each of my students and their personality, in order to foster a positive learning experience in their tutoring sessions. Character development is also prominent in education, and I aim to help children be reflective both in their learning, and also in their decision-making. This will help individuals develop confidence in their daily choices and their interactions with others, both at school and in the community. One of my favourite quotes is: "Teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning." What do I love to do other than teach? I lead a healthy and active lifestyle. I am super athletic and a fitness fanatic. I play ice hockey, I love to run, and I exercise every day!
