Primary Junior Early Literacy Specialist

About:

Kaitlyn is an Ontario Certified Teacher, qualified to teach from Kindergarten to Grade 6, as well as an Early Childhood Educator (ECE). She graduated from the University of Windsor with a B.A. in Child Psychology, B.E.d. and E.C.E. in 2015. Over the past year she has been working as an ECE in a preschool classroom, where she was responsible to plan and implement hands on learning activities, including literacy and math activities. Kaitlyn is extremely comfortable working with children to develop and enhance skills that meet the child’s needs and interests.

Throughout her education, Kaitlyn has a vast experience through volunteering and school practicums. Kaitlyn volunteered at a local Kindergarten classroom where she planned a variety of learning activities each week for the children, in art, science, math, and literacy. Kaitlyn has had the experience of working with both students at both primary and junior levels in large groups and small groups. Kaitlyn was a part of the Book Buddy Program, through the Windsor Public Library, where she met with one child every week and read and facilitated activities with the student. Kaitlyn further enhanced the child’s reading skills, as well as other literacy concepts, such as parts of a non-fiction book, and parts of speech. Kaitlyn excels on getting to know each child’s strengths, weaknesses, and interests and using them in her lessons to further their skills in all subject areas.

Currently Kaitlyn is supplying as an Early Childhood Educator in Kindergarten classrooms, within the public school board. Kaitlyn has vast experience with working with children from preschool until Grade 6. She is qualified and comfortable teaching all subject areas at both the primary and junior level. Through her school practicums and work experience, Kaitlyn is familiar with the Ontario Curriculum and planning lessons that meet a child’s interest and needs developmentally. Kaitlyn completed a course on inclusive classrooms, which has given her the knowledge and understanding on how to make every child feel like they belong, and how to meet their individual needs and interests when planning lessons. Kaitlyn truly enjoys working with children at their level and using their interest to plan fun, hands on, learning activities, that promote further development and boosts their confidence.
