Kate’s teaching journey began ten years ago, when she moved to Thailand to teach ESL. She fell in love with teaching, and eventually returned to Toronto to pursue a B.Ed. and an M.A. in Second Language Education from OISE at the University of Toronto. Since then, she has worked as an English tutor, supply teacher with the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board, and an ESL instructor at Centennial College, where she has been happily teaching for the last three years.
Kate’s students have taught her that learning is largely relational. She believes that how students feel about themselves, their teacher, and the subject itself has a tremendous impact on their level of academic investment and performance. With this in mind, Kate strives to build positive relationships with her students, increase their confidence levels, and help them develop a personal connection to the topic at hand. Kate really enjoys tutoring, as it provides a unique opportunity to help students achieve their goals in a way that is both fun and manageable.
