Laura has a BA in English from Gonzaga University in Washington State and
received her Masters in Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Technology.
Laura is an Ontario and Washington State certified teacher with 8 years
of classroom experience teaching at the Primary/Junior Levels in Seattle,
Washington. Laura has taught Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 3, as well
as, supply taught in classrooms up to Grade 12. In addition, she led an
enrichment math classes working with Grade 4 through Grade 6 students
providing challenging math activities and making math more fun for young
learners. Her specialties include working with emerging readers focusing
on phonics, phonemic awareness, and fluency. She enjoys teaching writing
at all levels and working with hesitant writers to improve structure,
content, and mechanics. Most recently, she has enjoyed the ability to
work one-on-one with students through tutoring especially in mathematics
as it allows her to personalize their instruction and focus on areas of
need. Laura’s hope is that her passion for teaching is evident to
her students and that it will inspire them to love learning. Her primary
focus for struggling learners is to find ways to make learning fun in
order to build their self-esteem and willingness to explore new concepts.
Aside from teaching, Laura loves spending her time outdoors running, biking,
hiking, and skiing.
