Leslina is currently a full time Instructor Therapist for Autistic children in an autistic learning centre where she helped plan a modified language curriculum for students, and helped prepare them for entering schools in the public board. She has also assisted children in ABA programming, worked on their social skills, and helped them with their modified curricular homework.
Leslina’s experience and expertise lie in ABA and IBI therapy. She completed her bachelor of Science in Clinical Psychology, focusing on the mental health of children and youth. Leslina worked at CAMH as a support social worker for her co-op as well as a contract position. She then decided to further her education with a diploma in Visual Arts, Learning to implement and integrate fine arts with special needs that's proven to be beneficial for students. Leslina learned that art helps children with special needs with their self expression, life skills, literacy, and coordination.
Leslina finds working with children of all abilities very rewarding. Every day she sees her impact on her students, big or small. Leslina has a desire to create an equitable learning environment for all students. She recognizes that what her students do is simply who they are. Tutoring allows Leslina to give a child the experience of someone who understands them and accepts them for who they are, without making them bad or wrong. Leslina love to learn and her students teach her something new everyday.
