Senior Math and Chemistry Tutor
About:Li is an Ontario Certified Teacher, and is certified to teach Math and Chemistry at the Intermediate and Senior levels. Li’s love of math and science started when she was a high school student in the TOPS Programme (Talented Offerings for Programs in the Sciences) at Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute. Because of her passion for teaching, Li went on to study Concurrent Education at Queen’s University. She holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours), majoring in Life Sciences, and minoring in Mathematics. She is a Dean’s Scholar and holds her Degree with Distinction. Li studied education with a focus on teaching Exceptional Learners. Over her many years of tutoring, she has worked with students with different accommodations and modifications as outlined in their IEPs.
Li believes that all students can succeed when given the proper tools, and her philosophy of education is that the most effective learning takes place by creating a community of learners who respect each other. Students who have a sense of belonging are the best learners, and this sense is created when individual differences, learning styles, and needs are accepted and accommodated. To aid in this goal, Li uses scaffolding and chunking techniques to ensure all students are prepared. Li wants every student to be a sophisticated thinker who can adapt, innovate, and lead – the skills needed to a shape their future.
Li has a love of fitness, dance, and music. She holds her RCM Grade 10 piano and theory certificate. In her spare time, she can found practicing yoga, enjoying fantasy literature, and playing video games.
