Senior English Tutor
Elisabeth Schieck is an Ontario certified teacher whose specialty is teaching English and who also has her Special Education Part 1 certificate. In addition to her teaching and undergraduate degrees, she also completed a Master of Arts degree in English. Elisabeth has been working all year at Montcrest school, a private, independent school in Toronto, where she has taught both literacy and math in the classroom as well as provided after-school support to many students.
At both Montcrest and Prep Academy, Elisabeth works with students who want to enrich and improve their literacy and math skills. While she occasionally provides homework support, Elisabeth primarily plans and delivers original lessons. Many of these lessons focus on developing and improving critical literacy skills and strategies such as identifying the main idea, comparing and contrasting, drawing conclusions or predicting outcomes, distinguishing between fact and opinion, summarizing and more. Elisabeth also works with students who require remedial reading intervention. Additionally, Elisabeth works with students who are seeking general math support or who are working towards successful completion of the SSAT exam. Elisabeth has taught difficult math concepts such as fractions, percentages and algebra to students of varying ages and abilities.
In addition to supporting students in math and literacy skill development, Elisabeth also focuses on building student confidence and executive function skills such as metacognition, goal-directed persistence, sustained attention and working memory. Students who have more self-awareness and self-assurance are ultimately more successful academically, and Elisabeth’s warm and friendly demeanor, combined with her diligence in teaching math and literacy concepts, helps students achieve their goals with aplomb.
