Senior English and History Teacher
About:Michael has pursued his love of education for much of his academic and professional life. He graduated with Honours from the Concurrent Education program at Queen’s University, earning a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education. English and History, Michael’s teachable subjects, have always been important to him. Following the completion of his Bachelor of Education, Michael went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in English Literature at the University of Toronto. This enabled him to further refine his English teaching practice, and gain new historical perspectives.
Outside of school, Michael has taken on numerous roles relevant to education. At Queen’s, he served on his faculty’s student governing body, and was an executive coordinator of the Queen’s Conference on Education. Michael was also a live-in residence advisor, or Don, at both Queen’s and UofT. Outside of school, he worked in camps for six years as both a Counselor and a Supervisor, relishing the opportunity to teach participants a variety of skills in a fun, outdoor environment.
Since completing his studies at UofT, Michael has tutored in a variety of contexts, and worked as an English teacher for MWS Camps. MWS provides local and international students the opportunity to receive English instruction in a classroom environment, while also exploring Canadian culture in Toronto. Michael was responsible for developing structured lessons in oral and written English, as well as fun and creative activities. Michael is now delighted to be a tutor for Prep Academy Tutors in North Toronto and York Region, at both Intermediate and Senior levels. He believes strongly in an equitable approach to education, and forms his pedagogy around a differentiated, dialogic approach.
Beyond his passions for English, Education, and summer camp, Michael is an avid consumer of fantasy and science fiction, superhero films, and video games. He loves any opportunity to discuss these interests with students!
