About:

Rachel graduated with a Master of Teaching from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. Her research focused on place-based and environmental education which uses students’ surrounding community as a starting point to teach curriculum. Prior to attending graduate school in Toronto, Rachel worked as a preschool teacher in Vermont for five summers as she completed her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in psychology at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Her degree in psychology gave her a true understanding and appreciation for child development. Rachel also has an additional qualification (AQ) in Special Education, along with a practicum placement experience in a primary special education classroom, which has helped shape her view on individualized planning for each student. Additionally, Rachel is trained in the remedial reading programs of Direct Instruction Reading Mastery and The Wilson Reading Program, and she enjoys delivering individualized instruction to students using these methods. She has also had placements in grade 2/3, kindergarten, and grade 6. She believes that by getting to know s tudents and their interests, learning can be enjoyable for all students.
