Rebecca is an Ontario Certified Teacher. She grew up in Toronto, and moved
to Ottawa to complete an Undergraduate Degree in Health Science. As well,
she completed a Bachelor of Education degree, specializing in the junior
and intermediate areas from the University of Ottawa Education program.
Rebecca specifically specializes in math, science, and music theory at
the junior and intermediate levels. Rebecca grew up with a deep love for
music. She loves to play the drums and has performed with several up and
coming bands for many years. When Rebecca began to teach percussion to
members in her church, she then discovered her passion for teaching and
working with children. Soon after, she decided to pursue teaching as a
career and gained incredible teaching experience through designated practicums
through the University of Ottawa, running Arts and crafts summer camps,
and co-facilitating after-school programs for the youth within the community.
These after-school programs consisted of providing academic and educational
support in the areas of math and science. Rebecca provided additional
support to newcomer youth with varied English language levels. The programs
that she ran, were also aimed at providing accessible and culturally appropriate
services to immigrant and refugee youth in Ottawa. Rebecca supported the
improvement of their reading, writing, vocabulary and math skills. She
has always believed that by building a strong relationship with her students
she is better able to meet their needs and grow their learning. As a mentor
Rebecca continues to develop strategies for working with children. She
finds these experiences enjoyable and extremely rewarding. Rebecca has
been given the opportunity to work for both the Toronto District School
Board and York Region District School Board as an Occasional Teacher.
She has been working in elementary school classrooms and has experience
working with students ranging from junior kindergarten through grade eight.
She is resourceful, competent, and able to adapt to the needs of each
student. She has developed several lesson ideas that are age appropriate,
and engaging. She is also technology proficient. In her spare time, you
can find Rebecca playing video games, basketball, travelling and practicing
to be the best drummer in town.
