Primary, Junior and Intermediate Teacher
About:Sara P. is an Ontario Certified Teacher, who has just spent the better part of the last five years teaching in the United Kingdom. Sara has always had a passion for teaching and working with children, which came from having two teachers as parents. Sara saw first-hand the difference that a teacher can make in the life of a child, and felt very lucky to have two such wonderful role models to look up to. Sara grew up in Toronto where, in 2009, she completed her Honours Bachelor of Arts at the University of Toronto, Majoring in History with Minors in Philosophy and Women’s Studies. Sara grew up with a deep love of travel and took the opportunity to explore the world. She elected to study abroad, completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Brisbane, Australia in 2011. She completed her teaching internship during her time in Brisbane, where she taught in a Grade Six and Seven gifted split classroom. In 2011, she graduated from Queensland University o f Technology with a Graduate Diploma in Education, which made it possible for her to teach in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom in all the Primary/Junior grade levels.
After graduating, Sara was recruited to come to the United Kingdom to teach. Sara supply taught all around the Thurrock area, teaching every grade, from Grade One to Six. This really helped Sara to develop her positive behaviour management style of teaching and gain experience in teaching children of every age group. Sara accepted a full time position at Belmont Castle Academy and taught Grade 4 and 5. Over the last five years, Sara has developed a deep passion for working with young children and guiding them to reach their full potential. It is through teaching that Sara has been able to foster her love of Math, English and Science. She has supported each of her students in the improvement of their reading, writing, vocabulary and math skills. Sara believes that by building a strong relationship with her students she is better able to meet their needs and develop their learning.
Sara believes in supporting students to reach their full potential. She has dedicated much of her spare time to working one-on-one with students. She engages students by using their curiosity and interests to help them gain the confidence they require to succeed. Additionally, Sara is trained in the Wilson Reading System and enjoys delivering individualized instruction to students using this method. Sara was delighted, when asked by Belmont Castle Academy (in partnership with the University of Greenwich) to mentor not one but two student teachers, both of whom went on to become employed at Belmont Castle Academy following their placement. Sara was eager to provide collegial and emotional support for this challenging phase of their development.
During her spare time Sara enjoys travelling (of course!) as well as going to art galleries and reading. She also enjoys spending time with her new husband and her family and friends.
