Selena Basile is currently a graduate student at the University of Toronto pursuing a Masters of Arts in Child Study and Education, where she is concurrently completing the requirements for her Ontario College of Teachers certification as an elementary teacher. Selena graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 2017 where she attained a Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) with Honours Specialization in Psychology. While at Western, Selena volunteered with the Learning Disabilities Association (LDA) of London, Ontario, where she tutored students with learning disabilities ranging from grade one to grade four. She also spent a summer volunteering with LDA as a camp counsellor to students between grades four and six. During the first year of her master’s program, Selena has been a teacher candidate in 3 different classroom settings, including: a grade three-four split classroom, a grade one class, and presently in a kindergarten class. Her education, volunteer activities, and practice teaching have allowed Selena to develop and hone her teaching skills and inspired her to be an impactful educator. Selena was fortunate to complete her elementary and upper school education in Canada, and in international school settings in Germany, South Korea and China. These formative experiences have shaped her own approach to the profession and taught her much about creating inclusive and enriching classroom environments. Selena genuinely loves being in the company of young children and has a passion for making learning enjoyable.
