Sujit R.

Senior English, History, and Math Tutor

About:

Sujit attended both the University of Toronto Schools and the University of Toronto, earning a double major in Classics and Classical Civilizations, with a minor in Ancient Greek. He fell in love with teaching after volunteering as a classroom assistant and subsequently working professionally as an Ancient History teacher at UTS in 2006. He has over a decade worth of experience as a private tutor, classroom assistant and teacher and has recently completed his Masters of Science in Adolescent Education from Medaille College. Sujit is currently completing his Masters of Teaching Degree. Additionally, Sujit is a trained SSAT coach and a trained SAT/ACT coach, and he enjoys guiding students through these test taking processes.

Sujit's philosophy of education emphasizes collaborative learning, appealing to a student's interests to spark the learning process, and critical thinking over regurgitation of facts. He has designed lesson plans which favour a multimedia approach to education, using film clips, newsreel/documentary footage, music and comedy to challenge a student's preconceptions and bring the material to life.

Sujit demonstrated his ability to assimilate and communicate a vast array of knowledge as a contestant on Jeopardy! in 2008. His wide-ranging personal interests and vast general knowledge base informs his pedagogy, as his love of pop culture ephemera (movie and TV buff, sports fan and player, avid reader, political junkie, etc...) allows him to engage with a student's own interests and motivate their learning.
