I received my Bachelor of Liberal Arts in French and Hispanic Studies from York University's Glendon College in 2015 and my Bachelor of Education in the concentration of Primary/Junior from Lakehead University in June of 2017. Lakehead's unique program required all students to pass an intensive compulsory math exam in order to graduate as well as required courses in Aboriginal Education and Environmental Education.
In my previous profession I was a dental assistant at Mount Sinai hospital
and worked assisting dental specialists,
general dentists and dental surgeons in a speciality clinic that attended to patients with exceptionalities, developmental disabilities and behavioural needs. I found many of the skills such as, patience, flexibility and adaptability both as a dental assistant in my previous profession and being a mom myself, have been transferrable in my journey as an educator.
I have spent a lot of time volunteering in LD classrooms and working one on one with students who have exceptionalities. I have over the years developed a passion and connection for the community of students I have worked with. I continue to strive for professional development in all areas of education including mental health & well being, 21st century learning, curriculum expectations and special education. I have achieved certificates in; Math Competency Exam, Family Math Nights Instructor, Student Mental Health and Academic Success.
I believe in the importance of creating an inclusive learning environment that values the individual learning needs of each student. Learning is fun when students see themselves reflected in the concepts and themes that are being taught and how they relate to real world issues. Using visuals, technology and hands-on materials enable students to engage all their senses in their learning.
