Primary Junior Teacher
Tory is currently completing her Master of Arts in Child Study and Education through the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study at OISE, University of Toronto, where she will be earning certification to teach K-6. Tory holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from York University, where she was also a member of the Women’s Varsity Volleyball team for four years.
Tory has experience working with children in a variety of settings, including through childcare, coaching in a range of sports, camp counselling, and teaching experiences in JK, FDK, Grade 1/2, Grade 5/6, and Grade 6 classrooms, as well as a Grade 1/2 classroom for students with severe physical and/or developmental disabilities.
Tory’s interests in education are centered around Mathematics, Literacy, Visual Arts, and students with exceptionalities. She knows that all students have individual needs, and aims to engage students through relevant learning, and an individualized approach. Tory values an inquiry approach to learning, where students learn not only foundational content knowledge, but also develop critical thinking skills and become creative problem-solvers.
Tory’s background in psychology has given her in depth knowledge of child development, and taught her the importance of a whole-child approach. She is dedicated to getting to know each individual student and putting them on the best path for their learning.
In her spare time, Tory enjoys reading, drawing and painting, rock climbing, and generally all sports – playing and watching them!
